Why use a winter cream?
In winter, the cold alters our hydrolipidic film and the production of sebaceous glands (which produce sebum) is slowed down.
The result: our skin, less oily, becomes less flexible, it becomes dehydrated and dries up.
In addition, like at the cutaneous level, the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin, consisting of keratinized cells) is slowing down the production of enzymes (which ensure natural desquamation), the skin is not renewed properly and it becomes rough.
That is why it is important to use a richer skin care to restore our skin protection from the first cold, regardless of our skin type.
And yes, in winter oily skin too must use oilier care. Normally, this kind of epidermis is producing excessive sebum, but in winter, this production is slowed down, causing skin imbalances.
So in cold weather, feeding the epidermis is also important for oily skin.
And the rare lucky ones with normal skin, who do not have any particular problem, might think to overlook the nourishing creams.
Well you should realize that you are taking a big risk!
Because beyond the unattractive aspect your face could have if it happened to suffer too much from the cold, not taking care of your skin in winter is making it more receptive to all kinds of aggression.
In short, it’s establishing the source of a permanent fragility.
How to choose your winter cream?
The seasonality for a cream is not necessarily true.
In winter, it is important to focus on nutritious and compensating treatments, but this type of cream can be perfectly used in spring by extremely dry epidermis.
The goal here is to find richer treatments than those used throughout the year (this advice also applies to oily skin).
Differences between cold cream and classic cream
If the term cold cream reminds you of the cold and the winter, it does not necessarily mean that it is a “special winter” cream.
Cold creams are nourishing and protective enough to be used in winter, but very dry skin that will feel the need can very well use them during the nice days.
So, it is not because we enter winter, that you must necessarily rush on the cold cream, extremely nourishing.
Above all, it is important to determine your skin type in order to be able to focus on the right care.
Little anti-cold tips
In winter, to maintain a beautiful skin, I advise not to eat more fat, but to eat richer, that is to say not to hesitate to put richer oils in your salads for example (avocado oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil).
As for beauty, we use our cream morning and night (but the one that we apply at night will not have to be a barrier and therefore does not have to be as nourishing as your day cream).
And, we cannot repeat it enough, but we remove makeup every night, even when it’s cold.
Of course, you don’t forget to pamper your lips and hands with nourishing treatments with beeswax and shea butter.
Finally, to find out if you can reuse your cream of last year, no other solution than to rely on what is indicated on the package.
Now, all skin care tells you how long you can keep them after opening. If you started your pot last year and it says 6 months, no hesitation: you can throw it in the trash!
